- Phenotype -

Regali are not horses. They are equine in general appearance, but also contain characteristics specific to ungulates (deer, antelope, etc) and dragons. Calling one a "horse" is considered an insult to a Regali, as horses are incapable of the intellect and telepathy of Regali.

Like humans, Regali come in all varieties of shapes, sizes, and colors. While individuals are recognized as a member of the species, there is a wide range of possible characteristics. The coverage of scales has subtle and sometimes drastic changes with every Regali. Some have the majority of their body covered in scales, while others are only dappled with them here and there.

Though each Regali has a horn, the structure can range from soft curves to sharp angles. Facial structure and body type also has some differences between individuals. A Regali's horn is capable of producing a wide range of noises, many of them musical in sound. These can be used to express emotion (a sigh; a snort; an outcry of joy, etc) or communicate in the natural "horn" language of Regali. Some of these noises have even been translated into Alyrran "english". For instance, the sound produced when a Regali commonly greets another translates roughly into the word "Mar'valla."

All Regali have cloven hooves, dew claws on the forelegs, and a crest of feathers in place of a mane.

Male Regali have beards, and often extra tufts of fur upon their body.

Reports of winged Regali have also been recorded, but this variety is either very elusive or uncommon at this time.
