- The Bond -

Upon hatching, a young Regali usually begins his or her search to find the appropriate bondmate. If the right candidate is available at the moment the Regali breaks through its shell, then the bonding process may be completed within moments. If there are no beings that immediately appeal to the Regali, then several days may pass until the young Regali discovers and officially chooses its bondmate. The delay of bonding has no effect on the developmental growth of the Regali. It is the quality of the relationship between the bondeds that is most important, so the amount of time that lapses between birth and bonding is irrelevant. There have even been incidents where a Regali does not choose a bondmate until after they have matured well into adulthood, and in other instances some Regali do not bond at all.

When a Regalis discovers its lifelong companion, the process is completed nearly instantly. The bond established between them surpasses a relationship of friendship and/or romantic love. It is a strong connection that binds the two together mentally and emotionally, so that thoughts and emotions of one are shared with the other. In this way, it is hard for one to hide a strong emotion from the other and it is also common that one is influenced by the other. If a Regali is upset, its bondmate will sense it immediately, and most likely be upset to some degree themselves.

Both bondmates also have a strong understanding of the thought process and behavior of the other, so verbal (and even telepathic) communication is not always necessary to convey feelings or ideas.

It is not necessary for survival for a Regali to bond. If there are no Seekers that are compatible with the Regali, then it will remain as an Unbonded until it discovers a suitable persona. Being an Unbonded has no affect on the Regali's development or overall health.

If a Regali's bondmate becomes deceased before the Regali, the Regali may either choose to re-bond or remain Unbonded for the remainder of their life.
